Advisory Note: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Guidance To Vape Stores

12 March, 2020

Australia’s vaping industry has always been committed to the highest standards of excellence in health and harm-reduction; after-all we became involved in the vaping movement in the first place to save lives. Improving health outcomes and saving lives remains at the core of what we do, including during this novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

We are urging the vaping community to exercise extra care and vigilance when it comes to our already strong approach to the health and hygiene of our staff and customers. To help fight the spread of COVID-19 infection we recommend vape retailers take some extra precautions:

  1. Temporary stop to in-store sampling of vape juices: given the highly transmissible nature of COVID-19, we are urging retailers to temporarily suspend the practice of allowing customers to sample vape juices, even using disposable mouth pieces.
  2. Do not share your vape device with others: coronavirus is spread through close contact with infected people and via contaminated water droplets expelled by coughing, sneezing and on contaminated hands, surfaces and objects.
  3. Practice additional hygiene measures: regular and thorough hand washing with soap or alcohol-based hand rub, covering your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with a tissue (or flexed elbow) and avoiding contact with anybody with cold or flu-like symptoms.
  4. Do not come to work if you are feeling unwell: if you or your staff are feeling unwell or are exhibiting coronavirus symptoms, do not attend work and seek medical attention urgently. Follow all self-isolation advice and support any staff through flexible working arrangements if needed.
